Florida

I've been in Florida for almost a week now.  I was going to post about it the night I arrived, but I decided to hold off.

So far, it has been really great.  I don't miss the cold and snow at all.  I've taken at least one bike ride every day and some days I took 2 rides.

It took me a little over 30 years to achieve my goal of having a winter getaway in Florida and I'm so happy that I finally have it.

I used to feel like a prisoner in my own house during the winters in New Jersey, but thankfully I don't have to deal with that anymore.

I'll mainly be doing videos of Football, Basketball, and Baseball cards, but 1 or 2 Hockey cards might find there way into the mix.

For most of the videos there will be a little story about why I really love the card or how I got it, but for some I just can't put my finger on it.

I'm planning on uploading one video per week, but I may do it more often sometimes.

The fruits of my garden

Although my garden this year wasn't a rousing success, it also wasn't a total flop.  The carrots this year were actually the largest I've ever been able to grow!

Is the world becoming less handicapped accessible?

Maybe it is just something that is happening in my area.  Maybe it is happening on a global scale.

I'm not sure really, but either way it is disturbing.

What is disturbing?

1.  Disappearing handicapped accessible parking spaces.
2.  Disappearing ramps onto curbs

In the past year my local mall has actually REMOVED handicapped accessible spaces from their parking lot.  There weren't enough spaces to begin with and now they took some away.

WTH?

At a strip mall near my house, the parking situation hasn't changed, but two ramps to the sidewalk have been removed.

Again, wth?

I hope this isn't some new trend of making the world less accessible, but I fear that it might be just that.

I picked some of the radishes because I needed to make room for some of the other plants.   They're small, but I think they'll be delicious.

In the other pictures, it is difficult to make out because the focus was off, but you can see some of the string beans that are starting to grow!

Things that I love about my new condo in Florida

I love the LEGO mummy alarm clock that I bought for the master bedroom.
I love the LED nightlights I bought from Wal-Mart.  They go on and off automatically!
I love how crisp and clear the HDTV I got is.
I love that I can sleep with the windows open in April and be completely comfortable.
I love that this is something I've wanted since I was a kid and now I have it.

Moving right along

3 rooms down now.  1 left to go.

The master bedroom proved to be the easiest room so far.  Mostly that is because our techniques for removing the carpet have improved greatly since we started a couple of days ago.  We might take a break from working to go to the beach tomorrow, though.

The carpet doesn't match the drapes

At this very moment I am sitting in my condo in Venice, FL and it looks like a mini war zone.  The two sofas and the recliner that were in the living room now sit in the room near the back door.  The carpet in that room has been completely removed and a bare concrete floor is all that remains.

In the living room, the carpet is currently half out.  What I mean by that is that the carpet is gone, but the sponge underneath is still present.  Within the next hour, though, that will be gone, too.

After that we (my mom, dad, and I) will start working in the master bedroom and then in the guest bedroom.  I include myself, but the amount of work I've done so far is minimal compared to what my parents have accomplished.

Anyway, expect a video very soon of the process.

Bullying YouTube Video Transcript

Hey everybody.  Today I'd like to talk about my experiences with bullying.  It is actually going to be a pretty short video because I really wasn't bullied that much when I was younger.  ...or now, for that matter.

So, yeah, when I was in elementary school and high school.  ...actually I wasn't bullied at all when I was in high school or in college.  In elementary school, (I was bullied) a little bit.

For the most part, I had a lot of friends and most kids liked me.  I got along with the majority of my classmates.

There was one exception in school and another out of school.  For...  I don't know what reason...  I actually had the same name as the kid.  We were both "Joseph."  Although, at the time I didn't prefer "Joseph."  I do prefer it now (to Joe or Joey). 

There were two other Josephs in my elementary school class.  One of them I got along really well with and the other one, for whatever reason, used to make fun of me a lot.  So how I dealt with that - which probably wasn't the right way - was the other kid named Joseph was a bit of a bully, too, but he liked me so I used to get him to pick on the kid that picked on me.

Again, that probably was not the right thing to do, but I was 7 or 8 at the time and it worked because the other kid stopped making fun of me.  So that was THAT time.

Now, out of school - I guess you guys know that I do theater and musicals and stuff like that, but when I was younger there was a woman I used to take voice and piano lessons with and she did cabarets (songs from different musicals) to raise money for local charities.  We did the cabarets at a church.  That was the venue, I guess.

So, one of the kids - his mother was in the show also...

When I wasn't using my wheelchair I would crawl around on the ground/floor, so this kid saw me crawling around and called me a baby.  He called me that over and over again and I really didn't like being called that.  It bothered me quite a bit.  A lot, I would say.

Again, I didn't have my wheelchair with me at the time, but I started punching him, his legs...  You know, wherever I could reach.

Several of the adults in the show mentioned to his mom that he was causing problems, not just with me, but with other kids.  So I didn't have any problems with him after that.

But again, after those two instances I didn't have any trouble with bullying.  So that is all I have to say about that.

Is this a midlife crisis?

I haven't posted in a while.  That is because I haven't really had anything interesting to say.  I still don't have anything interesting to say.  I just need to vent.

I'm now 31 years old.  I don't really have anything to show for my life.  A few meaningless awards.  Music.  Sports cards.  All shit really.  I've tried to fill my empty life up with that crap.  I hoped that those thing would distract me from the void.

I want to have a kid but I'm not sure if I really want to or if I just thimk it would make my life more interesting.  The latter isn't a valid reason to have a child, but plenty do it for that reason.

Much like my favorite anti-hero, Pippin, I feel that there has to be more to life than what I've seen.  I'm not looking for religion or a job or anything like that.  There is so much more I want to do, but I feel like I've lost too much time already.

If it is a midlife crisis,  it started early.  I've felt this way since I was in my early 20s.  It is always worse around my birthday, though.  ...and I'm sure what happened in the past year or so made this feeling even worse.

I also can't let go of the past which I am sure is part of the entire thing.

Amazingly enough I typed thing whole thing on my phone.
